I had knot weed a few years back so I barriered it off chopped it down and burnt it, then I put chickens in the area, three years later I moved the chickens to another area and the knot weed didn't return not sure why, I put it down to lack of light as the chickens kept it down, Mike

I'm another fan of Resolva24h for getting rid of bindweed.  My imported topsoil was full of it year one.  Year two I had 50% less and year three about 10% remains.  As others have said, I also let it put on a few leaves and zap it.  I then leave it in place for a few weeks to see if grows back and any hint of life is zapped again.  Werks fer me. :)

Why are you not allowed to grow anything on the contaminated land?

I would imagine that the risk of transferring a minute part of the plant's roots is too great - it will lead to the plant growing elsewhere which is not a Good Thing.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'm not allowed to grow on the land so there is no chance of disturbing and spreading the knotweed (I assume anyway)!
