Integrating chicks
« on: June 08, 2012, 10:42 »
Hello everyone,
My six week old chicks are in a separate Eglu within the main walk in run. I cleaned and disinfected 2x2 m of the run and divided it using weld mesh and placed a panel of clear corrugated plastic along the partition to improve quarantine measures and the chicks and hens can see each other.
At what age is it safe to integrate the flock and should I leave their small coop within the run during this process?
Many thanks peeps.

You should wait until the chicks are of a similar size to the adults; this will lessen the amount of pecking and chasing.

If they are in the same area, so they can see and smell each other as well (but not tough), this is very good, as this will also lessn the pecking and chasing :)
