Perching chickens
« on: November 04, 2007, 19:02 »
My Welsummer chicks are now 10 weeks old.  This weekend I have had to part with the 5 cockrels (out of 9 eggs hatched).  Pleased to say they are not destined for the chop but will go on to breed and live to a ripe old age hopefully.  The mother hen now roosts back in her old pen with the other 4 ladies and has left her remaining chicks in the compartment next door.  They have been huddled together on the floor until tonight when I perched them.  They weren't too happy and I am wondering now if it is a bit early to be perching them.
There's always someone worse off than you

Thanks for the reassurance.  They have likely perched all night anyway judging by the evidence on the dropping board.  Love your new site Grannieanne

Thanks Vivian, I sold 4 chicks today from someone reading my blog and asking about her poor chook who had a horse sstand on her foot!!!  The lady is coming to collect them on Thursday, even though they will only be just on 9 weeks old.  She is desperate for some white chickens!

She already has white horses, white dogs, white bunnies, white pigeons and white doves, so is coming all the way from Berkshire for FOUR white chicks would you believe??????
