never had so many problems as weith sweetcorn this year

had very few from planting just on the wondowsill, which I think was too cold - <20% success

Then tried the airing cupboard - again very few  - around 25% success

chitting raised it to about 75%, but even now some of the plants seem to have stalled at a couple of cm

No problems here in Glasgow with sweetcorn! Planted mine out yesterday, 19 plants out of 20 seeds sown, several years old seed, swift and Mirai, both tendersweets, so no problems if they do "mate". Doing experiment to see if they do mate as they are planted 4 m apart. The cobs are different colours so I will soon see if they have been  misbehaving!
They are under a Lidl cloche for the next month in case of cold weather, there could still be light frosts here.

I could give that a go - lovely pattern! 

How big should they be before I plant them out? A few are a bit behind the others but catching up fast. They're quite tall now but not very fat!

Out of the 105 I sowed I planted out 85, so no problem with block planting here!

I only got about 70% germination from my fresh seed this year.  bit disappointed, but hey ho, not going to buy anymore now, just hope I get 10 cobs from each plant!

Wouldn't that be great! Then I could just plant 10 plants, think of the space it would save!
