Hugelkultur anyone?

i have 2 large hugel beds on the veg patch, anyone else doing this?

It looks interesting and something I'm tempted to try on the allotment, the only problem is a lack of rotting wood in an urban setting.  If it's dead and not rotting it's on the woodpile ready for the log burner.

There is local woodland, but I'm part of a volunteer maintenance group for it and dead wood  in that situation should be left for the habitat it provides.  But it's interesting to compare the growth of wild plants on rotting wood, and the "shadows" that rotting wood leaves once it's decayed to ground surface level.

I might need to get imaginative about sourcing low value waste wood and give this a go.  I wouldn't fancy this for spuds.
