Kevin's new friend
« on: May 23, 2012, 21:12 »
Kevin the goose, despite being hatched by one of my hens, has never integrated with them and recently went through a spell of nasty attacks on him which thankfully have now stopped. He looked so lonely wandering around on his own so we decided to get another gosling to keep him company. She's called Lily and is about 8 weeks old. The problem is that Kevin doesn't realise he is a goose, and yesterday when we picked her up it was like an episode of a Benny Hill sketch with him running away and her chasing after him. She obviously couldn't understand why he was behaving like this and has been persistently following him around. I'd swear she had a bemused look on her face. Today has been a big turn around and they are best of pals. It's great seeing him with someone he can talk to. I'm so pleased he's no longer lonely, and he's even keeping the hens away from her.
I will post a pic tomorrow.

Sorry for the photo delay, been working 12 hr shifts and only fit for bed when I get home. They are very fond of each other now and go everywhere together. If Kevin stretches his wings, (which are now huge), Lily tries stretching her little stumps as well, and they've been splashing around in the baby bath together. I'm so glad we decided to get him some company, he seems so much happier now.

Yes, the grass is looking particularly good this year, probably due to the amount of fertiliser its getting! ???
