I know, so it says in the Glossary, do not use hydrated lime, as it kills organisms in the soil.

I know, a lot of stuff that kills things is advised to use by some.

Question: why and how is it, that hydrated lime acts this way and agri/horticultural doesn't, if that is so?

Can anybody enlighten me please? Thanks.

Hydrated lime is primarily calcium hydroxide - you want calcium carbonate which is much gentler and longer lasting.
