Hi folks

Am just about to put the following in the cold frame, as temperatures look to finally be creeping above 10 overnight...

- Chili plants (about 8 inches tall)
- Pepper plants (they've actually been outside for the last week and seem ok)
- Aubergine young plants (about 3 inches tall)
- French beans - only germinated a few days ago
- Sweetcorn (not yet germinated)
- Courgettes - only 2 inches tall, just germinated

And are the following ok to go in the soil outside?

- Leeks (very thin, but a few weeks old)
- Parnips - a few weeks old
- Calabrese broccoli (6 weeks old)

Thank in advance for any screams of 'noooooooooooooooooooo'.

Boog

I'd say the second lot are OK to go out into soil, although I'd probably let the leeks get bigger first.

As for the first lot, sweetcorn like it to be warm and not just frost-free.  I think you'll set them back by putting them outside.

Chillis/ peppers/ aubergines I wouldn't want to put out yet either.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks for that Yorkie. Just to clarify, you suggest they're not ok to put out into a cold frame yet, rather than out in ground? I was planning to leave them in the frame for several weeks. Think that's what you meant, but just checking in case you thought I was only putting them in the cold frame with a view to hardening off and planting out.

Yes, I wouldn't put them in a cold frame.  In fact, chillis / peppers / aubs often don't do well in open ground at all.

If you read the sweetcorn packet it says germinate at over 20C.  Yours haven't even germinated yet, let alone will be happy at temps of 10C.

Thanks Yorkie. The chilis, peppers and aubs weren't going to be in open ground, have bought one of the blowaway growhouses for them. Cheers.
