Sprouts And broccoli failed
« on: May 20, 2012, 12:28 »
I planted some sprout and broccoli seeds about 5 weeks ago. They came through in about 2 weeks and grew to an inch high. Then they just stopped.

They haven't grown at all in the last 2 weeks but the tiny leaves they had started going different colours. I had light greens orange yellows and purples.

I have had them in the greenhouse, did they get to hot?

I sowed then in a mix of seed compost and soil. Was there not enough nutrients?

I have sowed everything else in the same mix and it has all done well but these just didn't get going so I need to start again.
"Your first job is to prepare the soil.  The best tool for this is your neighbor's motorized garden tiller.  If your neighbor does not own a garden tiller, suggest that he buy one."

My brassica seedlings only turn 'interesting colours' when Ive consistently forgotten to water them.   I'd put it down to stress on their part.   Cheers,    Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

They could well have been baked.

From April onwards I don't let a brassica within 100 yds of a greenhouse.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Nutrients would not have got used up by just germinated seedlings in two weeks.

Thanks for your replies.

I have started both again today in cells using seed compost with 4 -6 week goodness in it.

I was going to germinate them in the greenhouse and as soon as they show I was planning to put the trays out on the garden under a net. Is this the way forward or should I put them outside now?

Thanks
