But as I keep saying, it's often just the cold that does the damage, to things like beans, rather than just 'frost'.

It was certainly cold enough for that last night - only  2.5C here

I've not done any beans yet and am waiting for warmer weather. I could be waiting indefinitely at this rate  :)

Hi mrs ball, I too put my toms out over the weekend, they had outgrown their pots and I don't have a greenhouse! Typical there's a threat of frost quite so soon after.... One shall see how they fair, if not too well I hope to have time to replant! Good luck with yours!

Thanks :) I still have my reserves in the living room; resisted the urge to leave them outside but they are quite deperate to go into pots.

The ones outside don't seem to bad. (but shhh don't let them hear or they might go into an instant decline to spite me.)

I listen to them all and then make my own mind up when I go up the garden to put the ducks in - for a few minutes covering down I err on caution.
I never commit anything sensitive to open ground befoer end of May and if in cold frames being hardened off it can easily be covered.
Greenhouse and polytunnel are pretty much OK at keeping frost out from early May.
