How do I use a max/min thermometer?

Usual way is that the mercury is in a loop arrangement.  Two little markers get pushed along by the mercury and are left in place as it moves back.   One marker therefore shows you the max temp since you reset it - the other, the min temp.   Resetting is simply done with an external magnet 'cos the markers are ferrite.

Hi WG.

Yep, the tube is a U shape, and where the mercury ends, there is a gap of say quarter inch then another bit of mercury (on both sides), cant see no markers.

upon close inspection the little bits are metal rod!!

So I just drag these with a magnet to the mercury?
