Went to Melton auction with BIL and bought these. Box says Light Sussex x RIR. BIL says they might all be boys now!!! If they are the other way I presume I would have to wait for the first crow. Is the cockerel always written first or am I an idiot

I have a white one - if girly chicks are buff coloured do they whiten with age then?

If the RIR is the cockerel then they would be boys, but if the sussex was the cockerel then I have to wait and see.
If they said light sussex x RIR does it mean the cockerel is the light sussex? Only cost £3 so cheap meal, prefer hens though and so would the kids.

he he he, they are sweet. My RIR cockerels didnt crow until 8-9 months old if thats any consolation (i might have been lucky, i dont know). They were a good size by then
