what can I grow with my carrots in sand?

My new plot comes with a handy old raised bed which is about 50cm deep and 1.2m squared. I plan to grow carrots in it and use sharp sand mixed with compost. Is there anything else I can sow in there which will grow in that type of sandy mix?

Oh and should I add some soil to the mix too or is sand and compost ok on it's own?

what about some spring onions, radish or turnips?

I have found that herbs quite like the sandy mix I give to carrots.
