Supermarket cake is rubbish. (please insert raspberry blowing face). Full of chemicals to make it last on the shelves for weeks. Has a claggy texture and taste. :(

And unfortunately some independant bakeries use packet mixes. I have seen the websites for the chemicals, can't bring myself to call them ingredients

What horrifies me more is that there are a generation that think that, that is what cake  tastes like.

Heard in my local Morrisons a young lady waxing lyrical about a commercial chocolate cake which in her words were 'lush'.  :(

I agree with Mum, you should try both recipes to see which one works best.

you can never have too many cream cakes and they do freeze if they get as far as the freezer ;)

the thing is young ones are growing up thinking that this is the way cakes should be , and some resteraunts are the same hubby and i went out the other week he had a curry and i went for the steak pie , i couldnt fault the meat but the pastry was over buttery to the point of being sickly and it tasted abit artificial .

It is sad isn't it.
I really hate going out to eat anywhere it is obvious that that the food is bought in :(
Will not pay for a bought in pudding either, even if the main courses are quite good.

Went out with ex-colleagues to a well known Pizza place a week ago. Only went to see friends, didn't think the food would be up to my exacting standards.

The food was dire. Lukewarm pizza made with cheap thin ham substitute and black dyed pizzas.
Upsetting actually as it used to be one of the better places. Had to keep my tongue firmly in my cheek as they ate their mass produced, rubbery fudge cakes. :(

I stuck with the Irish coffee. Best thing on the menu.

I did send feed back to the company and the manager of the restaurant contacted me to say that all the ingredients came from the main company and agreed with me that the olives were not good. I was offered another meal free but no one in my family wanted to take it up. Free or not the food would still be 'orrible. So shortsighted as there is a really good wood fired pizza place not too far away. No wonder the place we went to was nearly empty!
Must get them all to come to  me next time for some proper food.

Luckily we have some good eating pubs not too far from us where everything is home made, even the eclairs..... Added that to keep on topic

Yep, fridge clear out day is pizza or soup with crumble

Made some eclairs today, too darn cold to go anywhere but a warm kitchen, and the first attempt was disaster! :( Haven't made them for years.

So not to be beaten did another go and ........ BINGO, worked like a dream.
So when you do your next batch bring the buter and water to the boil slowly and make sure it is boiling hard and then add the flour.

Helps to have sieved it onto a piece of kitchen paper first.
Then beat like crazy and let it cool for a few minutes then add the eggs a little at a time.
You don't always need all the egg. I used 2 small eggs giving 4 fl oz. I stopped after 3 and 1/2 fl oz.
The trick is to make sure the mixture is stiff enough to pipe.

Also if you are using a fan oven you don't really need to put another baking tray on the top.
I hope the pictures work as I am doing this solo.

I finished mine with toffee cream, bananas and chocolate ;)

Yes. they were, if I say so myself and shouldn't. ::)

Family didn't leave many, so I think they agreed.

Made some banana chocolate brownies too but I was too quick for them this time and managed to hide most of those in the freezer for next weekend 'cos it is going to be lovely and warm, I will be able to ditch the thermals and I will spend the time in the garden. :)

No really, it will be nice weather

It has got to change soon

Hasn't it :(
