new plot
« on: April 30, 2012, 20:35 »
Ok, so today I signed for my first ever plot. It's not in too bad a state, but will need some work to get it ready. Should I just rotorate the whole plot (where I'm intending to grow) first so it's all ready like a blank cavass if you will. If I do do this , should I put any compost/nutrients into the soil then till it or just leave it.

Thanks for the replies (in advance) and sorry if the question is so basic but I'm a complete beginner.

Here is the plot..

I would double check whether there are any weed roots under the surface before rotavating.  If it looks clear, then I would rotavate.  If there's any weeds / grass on the surface, or roots underneath, then clear them first by digging.

You could add a general purpose fertiliser if you wanted afterwards.  But you may find that the soil is OK without it.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks, Yorkie. Apparently nothing has been grown on it for 3 or 4 years now. Not sure if that is a good or bad thing to be honest. I'll take your advice and dig and weeds out first get it spotless and then rotavate.

Thank you :)

Hello John,
I have singed for my first plot today as you. I am a beginner as you.
I picked the key up and I went to see it, and I find one difference:
The only difference is that my plot is inundated and with a lot of rubbish and weeds and yours looks very good.
I do not know how to start...
Hope we both have luck with the plots,

xx
