how do you stop food sticking?
« on: April 20, 2012, 20:13 »
My cakes and bread stick to the tin.
I have tried greasing with lard or oil, but neither work.
I have tried coating the greased tin with flour, but that does not work either.
I have tried using greaseproof paper or aluminium foil, but it sticks to bread and it is a nuisance peeling all the little bits off as it  tears.
How do you solve this problem?

I use "Non-stick Greaseproof & Baking Paper", which is a supermarket own-brand.  (the supermarket where they tap their back pockets all the time!) ;)

I've roasted veggies, made cakes, done all sorts of things, and the food never sticks.  Hope that helps!
No sense in being pessimistic It wouldn’t work anyway.

Me too, brilliant stuff!  I also treated myself once to the already cut out circles of the baking parchment stuff from Lakeland.  Ideal when I can't be bothered to cut out a circle for my cake!  ;)

Thanks, folks. I will have a look for some of that next time I go shopping.
This problem has been frustrating me for ages.

The baking paper works every time unlike greaseproof which breaks up into annoying bits and sticks to the cake. Humph  :D

I won some baking tin and oven liner sheets from WeightWatchers (black shiny material) and it's fab.  You cut it to size to fit your tins and oven, so I'd deffo recommend it  :)

When frying meat/fish you make sure you pan is hot before adding the food and then avoid trying to move it until the juices begin to run

Where might I be able to get oven liner sheets from? I was wondering about that silicone stuff.

Try Ebay or Amazon.

I did get some from one of the cheapy shops, but it isn't as good as the black one CQ mentioned.  I got my black sheet from Morrisons, but Lakeland sell it too.  I also got my granddaughter a black one that is cut to fit a frying pan that isn't non stick anymore.  It fits inside the frying pan, and you can still say 'fry' and egg on it without it sticking.  I've got one myself, but must admit, I haven't tried it yet, as I have 2 non stick frying pans.

I have to laugh as it reminded me about our WW Leader who had some of this black non-stick sheet. She wanted to make a cake but none of the pre-cut round pieces would fit her tins so she went round the shops trying to find baking tins to fit them

She asked me where I'd got my baking tins to fit the various sized pieces. I replied that I'd simply cut them to size with the scissors. She went very red indeed

Kleeneze and bettaware sell the sheets too.
I did bread today and have now knackered the 1lb tins. I use cake liners when doing cakes in them.

Lakeland ;)

and they sell really good baking parchment in large rolls.
Have tried supermarket baking parchment but not as good as Lakeland.

My old Mam used to keep the inner bag from korn flakes packets for this purpose.  When flush, she would use rice paper and us kids would love to eat the off-cuts!    :nowink:

Cheers,    Tony.
