I've had enough i'm bringing the chickens home
« on: April 13, 2012, 18:33 »
I had a visit from mr fox again last night, the first visit back in November i lost 6 hens and my big Cockerel. I have been to the allotment every night to lock them in safe, last nght for some reason i forgot i went down this morning to find my flock of 6 chickens and 4 ducks reduced to 3 chickens and 3 ducks.

This is really the final nail in the coffin for me, what with the foxes and total infestation of rats which eat the veg before i do I've decided to sell my ducks and the alotment and bring the remainding chickens home so if anyone can point me in the direction of a good quality Chicken coop seller i'd appreciate it.

If you have an infestation of rats surely your local council should sort that out?

Unfortunately it's a private owned allotments and the council won't do anything we've tried and tried.

The rats on there are unbelieveable and it's been like it at least since i was a small child and i'm now 30, it would take a nuke to have any effect on them.

Nasty :(

I take it no-one wants to club together and pay for an exterminator?
I'll probably upset someone saying that! ::)

We've had pest control people on before but the problem is so big and spread out that the amount of poison they were going through was unreal and the affect it had was minimal, nearly everyone on the allotment owns an air rifle too and countless rats are humanely shot each week.

It's when it snows that you get to really see how bad the problem is, the ground looks like the spaghetti junction of rat runs.

 :(  So sorry Madclucker.

There are quite a few second hand coops on eBay so it might be worth a look on there.

Could you not use the coop you already have and make a secure run at home. Freecycle might have one if you ask or ebay.
Our allotment had alot of rats due to chicken owners who hadn't rat proofed their runs, council pest man came in at allotment expense and baited one side and Stu, Wendy and I put traps on ourside..we caught 50 and the other side was greatly reduced due to where the bait was placed.

Really looking forward to bringing them into the garden.
