message to moderators
« on: April 11, 2012, 08:10 »
Good morning.
There are numerous new queries about red mite. Would it be possible to make a sticky specifically on this subject using Hillfooter's posts?
BTW when I tried the Aunt Sally link to red mites I got an invitation to meet a rather attractive young lady in Sheffield...reaches for satnav ;-).
Many thanks
Chris (EHS284)

I got invited to meet one in Loughborough.

Closes door quietly behind himself.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Hello, might I add my two pence worth?
While the information in the FAQ is useful it does not contain a comprehensive but compact  (is that a paradox?) review of the problem of red mite and I would welcome a 'sticky' on the subject.

For this or any problem affecting my hens, I would want to know:
What is it ( red mite in this case)
What problems can it cause?
What are the symptoms?
Can I confirm the problem?
How do I treat it?
How do I prevent/ reduce the likelihood of iit happening again?

This site is brilliant for supporting chicken keepers and I have used it on many occasions and am grateful for the advice given freely and generously by those with more experience.
It does appear that some problems appear with such frequency that they might warrant a 'sticky'
What do you think?

Kind regards,
Jane

There's a large section on red mite in the External Parasites thread in the FAQ section.  I just hate reading it because it always makes me itch!  :tongue2:

That is "wot I wrote"

If you have any more information to add to it ehs284 or jhub (or anyone else) please PM it to joyfull, Ice or myself and if it is factually correct and helpful we can add it to the FAQ topic.

Hides head in shame. I didn't realise that it was not in the Hen House either.
Having admitted that, I think that jhub's organised approach might be useful; perhaps a sort of moderated wiki? If the mods (especially AS as s/he has put in the original efforts) thought it worthwhile, I'd volunteer to help collate and check.
