In the past I've tried beer traps, egg shells and night time picking but now I just use blue pellets, however I only scatter around the edge, making a kind of landmine of pellets they have to cross, some get past and have a munch but may then get got on the way back ha ha, and of course some slugs may stay within the veg bed but keeping it free of suitable hidy holes that slugs lurk under (such as oregano ground cover type plants and rocks and dead leaves etc) then you should get fewer slugs within the beds.  I find they like to live in the nooks and crannies around the edging planks.

Another approach I've used is to actively encourage them towards one spot by planting for example oregano and then scatter the pellets under this plant

jay001 - I found a few references on the RSPB website - a couple in their forums and also this one, although they seem to think that "Growing Success" slug pellets contain aluminium sulphate, which they don't, although I think Fertosan does.

In general, they seem to approve of them (certainly in comparison with the non-organic types.)

thanks for that jayg --oh great and wise wonderfull sage and helpfull member of this site " and still very furry " i have just clicked on the link you posted looks like it is just me again not being able to navigate around any sites thankyou

Just not long came back from the lotty, and I use blue slug pellets, found a dead mouse, he must have eaten some.... and he didn't complain that they weren't organic   :D i cant be bothered to faff around planting traps here and there all over the shop, takes one minute to throw them and the jobs done, I do net as well

Spending so much time down the allotment has finally caused the dirt from under my nails to slowly penetrate my mind.
