When we moved some of the chicks to their new home yesterday, I said to hubby, I'm worried that they'll all try to escape when I open the door to go in with their food (they arent allowed out until we've finished the extension to their house).  So he got an old secondary glazed window and put it up at the door with 2 wooden hinge type things he'd made up.  Well, he'd only screwed them into the hardboard that lines the bottom of the house and they were wobbly, so this afternoon he went down there to fix it while I fed them, and as he was taking one off, the screw fell out and was quickly picked up by one of the chicks, and I spent the next 20 minutes trying to catch the chick before she swallowed the screw!!!!  I caught her once, but she opened her mouth and as she dropped the screw, it was picked up by another chick before I had a chance to get it.

We did get it back in the end, so no panic!!!!   It was soooo funny though!!!!

it would have been alright.. might bent ya knife when ya sliced the top off ya egg tho :roll:

    Brian was worried that it would have killed the chick if she'd managed to swallow it. After all, it was about 2 inches long!!!!
