Did you prod it to see what sort of consistency it is?

I can see a speck of blood there but the main colour is a bit strange but not disimilar to 1 of the 'caecal' droppings in the poo picks thread.

Could it be a 'lash'

yes looks like a lash to me. If you cut it open it will probably resemble a roll of wafer thin ham and have some fluid inside it.

That phrase wasn't in my raising poultry book and I haven't come across it in any of the magazines I've read?
