Hardening off sweet corn
« on: April 08, 2012, 16:15 »
Will sweetcorn be OK in a cold greenhouse? They have made good growth and I think they could go in the greenhouse now before planting out. They are around 6" tall.
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

I would have thought they're liable to sulk.  They're not frost hardy and don't like being checked.

I won't be starting mine off for another month.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I'm not risking it yet either.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Too much haste again then. Why don't I learn to wait. The warm weather sent me off on the sow, sow, sow road and what I didn't do was to look at the calendar and realise that it is still early spring (isnt it?).
More haste less speed........

no point in giving up on them yet - put them in your greenhouse and cover each plant with a plastic pop bottle - that may keep them warm enough! :)

To early for sweetcorn i think.
I'm very important. I have many leather-bound books and my apartment smells of rich mahogany.

Mine have been sown today in my unheated greenhouse.  Covered with fleece every night and any sign of a bad frost they will be brought into the house (along with toms ).
