3 Bed Rotation, Without Potatoes!
« on: April 04, 2012, 22:12 »
Hello, I am looking into setting up a 3 bed rotation on my allotment, but all the examples I see online have potatoes in them. I don't mind potatoes, I just don't want to grow them. Does anyone know of a good rotation example of this. Just would be good to know what should follow what when you don't have potatoes in the mix. Cheers

peas and beans in one group followed by brassicas and then root crops or perhaps sweet corn and squashes or onions. I use a five plot rotation system and find it convenient to keep one lot as the last out winter crops such as leeks and parsnips that other wize get in way of digging next spring.

As long as you don't follow a crop with one of the same family the next year, it doesn't really matter what goes where.

it's not the traditional approach but makes things so much easier, especially on a small plot (like mine)

So don't worry about it too much just enjoy the growing  ;)

I agree, dont get too hung up on rotation. I cant see it makes too much of a difference when the growing areas are only a few yards from each other-its not like on farms where there will be hundreds of yards apart. But does make sense not to plant the same thing in the same position every year.
Political Correctness-a concept based on the idea that its possible to pick up a turd by the clean end.

That's the way I tend to do it!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
