Hello,
I have some tomatoes growing on the windowsill looking very well and I am thinking of how best to plant them outside when the time comes, probably late May.

I will have to transplant to pots and growbags and am just wondering the best method to grow them.  I quite like the idea of large bottomless pots sitting on a growbag but the site below states it is not a good idea and to use the growpot with the side part for watering as detailed on this site:
http://www.selections.com/GF9810/tomato-and-vegetable-growbag-pots-set-of-3/

Do you think it is worth investing in these style growpots or bottomless pots are ok?

Many thanks,
Kevin

Use the florists buckets that you can get for next to nothing from most big supermarkets (ask by the cut flower displays) with the bottom cut off for planting into -
and an upended pop bottle, also with the bottom cut off, inserted into the growbag for watering.

Same effect IMO but minimal outlay  ;)

Bottomless floral bucket palced on the top of a growbag.   Water in the growbag and tomato feed in the bucket.  :D      Cheers,     Tony.
I may be growing OLD, but I refuse to grow UP !

If you don't mind me asking, is the effect *that* much better than planting into containers? I am planning to use a florist's bucket with a reservoir beneath (as in the below diagram) - would it be preferable to plant straight into a bucket on top of a grow bag?

Thanks

I think you get stronger plants because there is more compost for them to access, and to hold water

However you can grow successfully in large pots as long as you water and feed regularly
