Too much is not the problem for me, I now need to collect 60 bags of leaves!  (but my calculations are probably very wrong

Epping Forest?
I was thinking of lurking up there with some bin bags.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

you wouldn't want to clear ALL the leaves from any 'wild' location (i guess they collect them up in parks to keep it tidy) -- it's good nutrition for the woodland trees and plants too, aswell as providing shelter etc for all sorts of creepy crawlies

Good point. I was just thinking of trying to avoid the litter as well.

about 5 bags , sn one bag fer 2 sq yrds

Munty, do you mean an area of 2 yards by 2 yards (36sqft) needs 5 bags of leaves or is that wishful thinking?  And for a plot 15 ft by 120 ft how many bags would I need?

I'm really bad at maths by the way, help will be gratefully appreciated. :D

As I thought - only 480 to go!  Epping Forest here I come!  Or I may have to hijack one of the council's trucks. :)

WG I get terribly dyslexic when dealing with areas - I put it down to dodgy maths teachers.

But I've go to get it right now that I've got bags (unrotted) per square yard to sort out - the difference between 60 and 480 bags means estimates and dodgy maths simply won't do.  I might have to go back to the graph paper and count the squares.  Shocking.

My plot has been totally covered in leaves so in desperation I made a 5ft x 2 1/2 ft wire cage and it is full up even though I keep pushing them down and watering them. It has been really hard work but I look forward to lots of lovely leaf mould in 18 months or so.

Just to complicate things further. There are leaves and leaves. We've got two large trees, a beech and a birch. Beech leaves are particularly tough to mould down, as to be seen in any beech wood. Big magnolia grandiflora in the front garden and the leaves from this are big and leathery, and equally difficult.
Growing salad leaves isn't rocket science.
