A Word of Warning
« on: March 29, 2012, 21:51 »
Apologies if this has already been posted. For anyone with early potatoes coming through (like me), the temperatures in London (and probably elsewhere) are going to drop from the weekend onwards. Wednesday night is down to zero according to the following website.
I'll be covering my spud haulms every night from Saturday.

I've been telling people that it's going to be cold next week, but I don't think they wanted to believe me  :(

We have had frosts for the last 5 nights where I live. Thankfully my spuds are not yet up, but will be earthed the moment they start to show, I am checking them daily.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

One tip I learned years ago was to 'plant earlies late, and lates early'...

Haven't had time to put mine in anyway, but they're well chitted now.

I'll be covering my spud haulms every night from Saturday.

Mine have just gone in and are well buried, but you have haulms already?

They're going to take some serious covering when we get the May frosts!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Yes, they've poked through. Perhaps 1" to 2" tall, so not a problem to cover as yet. I will start earthing up when they're around 6" tall. They can take their own chances by May.
