Too early for peas?
« on: March 29, 2012, 09:37 »
I had 16 meteor peas that have been hardening off in the cold frame for over two weeks now. They were getting really big so I put them into their bed yesterday.

Bit worried it is too early to have them out. What do you think?

I had no choice really - they were really taking off.

I'll be direct sowing once I've got the spuds in, in fact I've a few a home that have been direct sown & are coming up.

16 sounds a lot, but they'll only make just over a foot row.

Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Oh... I was just looking for the picture to remind myself of the spacing out measurements.
I thought I will find it here :D
Off to look for it elsewhere ;)

Oh dear! my handfuls per foot didn't look quite like that - will they still grow?  :nowink:

I like to look upon it a a guideline!

I used to sow peas like that before the addiction took hold. (In the days when I did just one row!).

I had three in each 2ins square module, now planted out at four inches tall

Got a debris netting tunnel over them so the pigeons don't eat the shoots before they get nice and tall. Keeps the slight ground frosts off them for now too

indeed they will. You can happily and successfully plant them very close together and get a very good crop: I just throw the seeds into a shallow trench, cover them and just let them grow. Might not look neat but a bush of peas does look lovely when in flower.

I know that really, I was just being facetious (that's why the smiley shakey head was there)

But thank you anyway  :)
