Celery and Celeriac
« on: March 28, 2012, 17:12 »
Please advise me if it is OK to pot on these celery palnts. It is first time I am growing them and they still seem so fragile...

Also I have sown celeriac (not too thinly  ::) ), shall I just leave it as it is for now?

Thank you :)

I'm afraid they've gone a bit leggy due to lack of light, you can almost hear them straining to get to that window.

You can try repotting and burying them deeper, but they're going to be very fragile. It may be a case of re-sowing with better lighting conditions. (Alumium foil behind them!).
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thank you DD :).

There is foil behind the celery... :)
And celeriac has been outside in the greenhouse once it has germinated.

Oh dear, I am going to sow some more but I will leave these to see what happens :).
Can you please advise where should I keep them once germinated?

My celeriac was whipped into the greenhouse once germinated, I think you'd better do the same with the celery - not sown mine yet, but very soon.

Although harsh, i think i would resow the celery and maybe transplant the celeriac into modules so that the little leaves are just clear of the compost. I would also leave it all out in the greenhouse. If we get a frost forecast and it is not heated, drape a piece of fleece or newspaper over them.

I have resown celery, better be safe than sorry and will keep it in the greenhouse.
I shall get busy later on with transplanting the celeriac.
Thank you for advice :)

I did not get to transplanting celeriac until today (I have my cousin helping me tonight :) )...
I was wondering how successfully transplanted celeriac grows?
I am into 200 celeriac transplants now...  ??? and I am wondering if the failure rate is high?
If so, I will continue transplanting, if not then I might just give up now :D.
How many celeriac do people sow/transplant on average?

Thank you in advance... :)

I've always had nearly 100 % sucess.

I transplant no more than 24 for my own needs.

I hope you have friends.

Thank you DD :).
I think I will stop now .

I did plan to take them to an event at our alotment to swap seeds and plants ;).

Note to myself: not to ask my friend to help me sow celeriac seeds next year as she always sows too many of everything :).

You can't help but to sow too many celeriac seed.

One small pinch and you've got hundreds.

But you know that now!
