Pieris question
« on: March 28, 2012, 07:30 »
Hi,

Was looking at my pieris japonica last night (got it last year)... on a couple of the stems the leaves have gone brown and crispy, and when I ran my hand over the plant a lot of the green leaves fell off. Looks like it's dying - any ideas why and can I take any action to save it? The same has happened to my 'red robin' bush too.

They were fine a couple of weeks ago but gone severely downhill.

The first question has to be "are they in ericaceous compost?".
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Ah... probably not as OH planted them. Will replanting them help or I have some azalea plant food?

They both need ericaceous compost and a bit of azalea food won't come to any harm.

Also, was it kept watered over winter or could it have dried out at any point?
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...
