That's right, living leaves, 99p in Lidl. You can get them in the other supermarkets too, but they are bigger plants and less of them. I usually use the leaves first, cut above the growing point, as they are quite long and will wilt when planted. They soon start growing again. Only do it this way as we don't use that many lettuce when there are plenty of other things to go in a salad so once they are done I won't bother again till Autumn. Also grow a spicy mix of cut-and-come-again through the summer.

Interesting bit of a prog on tv I saw recently about lettuce. Keep harvesting just the lower leaves and each plant can last up to 12 weeks. Different to cutting and letting it regrow or leaving to full size.
I've always done that!
By the way....I now have loads of lovely "ready to pick off lower leaves" vibrant lime and deep maroon lettuces courtesy of Lidl's. Really cheap at 1p each.....and you can't buy the same types.
