It's an all female, so no worries about pollination.

My cues have only just been sown & will be going into the unheated greenhouse next month.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I let them absorb what water they want for an hour, say - and then take them out.

Done as you advise, but they do seem to be very waterlogged.

the excess soon drains away when you take them out. Don't soak them again till the compost feels dry when you push your finger in a little  ;)

Update:
The cukes look very fit indeed. They are in clear 1/2 pint plastic cups, and I can see the roots going to almost the very bottom of the cup.
Now the question: watering. I reckon if I just water a little from the bottom, the plant should get enough but leave the topsoil around the plant relatively drier? Or should I water it until it will soak up no more, then let it drain?

Another interesting observation. Instead of foil behind them, I used some very white paper. The plants tend to lean a little to the paper, rather than the "real" light.
