Chook poo - should I be worried?
« on: March 21, 2012, 18:04 »
Hi All,
Ive been to Aunt Sally's poo threads several times over the last couple of years since we've had our girls. Every time, it transpires the poops are normal - except this time - I can't find a similar one on that thread, or anywhere else I've loooked :(  (Plus, I can't reply to that thread for some reason)
We've currently got a white leghorn, a speckeldy, a blue haze aand 3 ex-batts.
We are currently 4 days into dosing the girls with flubenvet, and this morning I've noticed these specimins:-

All 6 girls are chooking round as normal with their tails held high - they have free run of the whole garden and we are currently getting between 4 & 6 eggs a day. Not sure who is responsible for each of them, but no point worrying if they are 'normal'. Sorry for the poor quality, but I'm not sure about the black/brown specks/spots in them.

Piper, one of the ex-batts, has got a bit of a sneeze, which prompted the worming, but she otherwise seems fine and is laying well.

So, I'll be grateful for any comments on the poops!

I get loads of those from my girls so I'd say normal.

I do too, Im sure they are nothing to worry about. I always say that if there is a bit of "icing sugar" on the top of the poo, then its okay.

mine too - On and off for years

To me it looks like the caecal poos in the guide
My maths shows that bird is equal to or greater than the word...

Yep - I would say they are definitely 'Ceacal' from the poo-guide, but it is the brown/black spots/specks in them that I can't find. (Most noticable in 3rd photo)

Seemed too coincidental to see 3 specimins at the same time , and all sorts started jumping through my mind - possibly wondered if it could be worm eggs or something?

Incidentally, I believe chook worms are not hazardous to humans, but could anyone clarify the position with dogs?
Our greedy spaniel loves nothing more than to snack on chook-poop, and if it does have worms/eggs in, will this be a problem? The dogs are regularly wormed with Drontal, but it got me wondering.....
