stockholm tar
« on: March 21, 2012, 11:12 »
Has anyone any advise on using stockholm tar on chucks to help prevent feather pecking from bully chuck. Have tried purple spray, to no avail. Can't seperate chucks as no space and really don't know what to do for the best. All chucks laying every day, eating ok and apart from being almost bald around the rear end and along the back, seem quite happy. Would appreciate any advise.

Grannie Annie has had to use it on her turkeys so hopefully she will soon be on to advise. Personally if it is just one bully I would fit a beak clip to her  :)
Staffies are softer than you think.

Not used Stockholm tar, although a few others have.  One person is particular used it, but said that it was so sticky, everything stuck to the chickens bottoms, and got black on their eggs!

It was UKADEX we used for the turkeys.  brown smelly stuff, bit like pig poo!  But very effective!  Don't get any on yourself, unless you want everyone for half a mile to keep clear of you! lol

The other one that smells a bit like UKADEX, but wasn't so strong, was I think, the Nettex one.

But Joy gave me a couple of beak clips and they seemed to work okay on our bully chickens too!

ukadex is an oil from animals (huile animale) - probably cods livers - being an oil is spray-able, Stockholm tar is thicker and from pine trees and is brushed on.
