Birds too thin??
« on: October 22, 2007, 18:50 »
Hi, had a friend come round and looked over one of my young cockerels - he's around 25weeks (large fowl fav) and and was told he was much too thin.  His keelbone rather proud. They have been wormed and have ad lib access to layers pellets- and mixed corn x2 daily. I have checked another couple growers and feel similar. Any advice? Or is there something else to supplement their feed. They are all bright and healthy looking. Just a bit worried I'm doing something wrong -equally I dont want to overfeed and they get fat and unhealthy specially as they are very large meat birds.
Really value your opinions

dont panic .he isnt gonna put meat on till he is fully growed , if you are worried to that point feed a few more ounces of lpellets a day in a feeder so they can help themselves they digest them quicker ,wheat puts wieght on them as its digested slowly over night , also maize is good for overnight as its warming
still alive /............

Yes, I will be keeping him. I have been told he has promising type?(dont know what that means!)So will be breeding from him next year. I already have some girls for him and they have been introduced (obviously chaperoned!) He found some bits of bark  for them I have to say they weren't very impressed - will have to start a blog on their romance!!!
