Well that was rather tasty.  Trying to use up remains in fridge so did some rosemary hasselback potatoes with it.  Bit scared of using cinnamon in it as I think of it as not something that goes with savoury so didn't put it in.  Might be wrong though and look forward to finding out. 8)

Ice - cinnamon is lovely in lamb stews - it seems to give them a lovely warm taste - not at all what you would expect.

Ice, Cinnamon is great in Greek/Turkish food - don't you use cinnamon when you make a lamb tagine?

Cinnamon is also used in curry, Ice.
Be brave.  :DTry it. You can't say you don't/won't like it until you try it.

Weird isn't it.  I'm very adventurous with spices, chili and herbs but somehow cinnamon goes with apples and not meat.  Must try it next time and not be so daft. ::)

Just had a lightbulb moment.  I'm having the leftovers for tea so will put a pinch of cinnamon in to try. :)

Just made this & put in the slow cooker. Used 1/2 shoulder of lamb, didn't like to discard the bone so added that on top before pouring the sauce on.

Thanks Mum, it was well received & very tasty. A small portion left over went in the freezer as a quick dinner for when I'm at work.

Dear mumofstig - how do you cook your lemon roast potatoes???

Loved them when I was in Rhodes. Bought a greek cookbook there but following the recipe for lemon roast potatoes in the book - they were waaaaayyy to lemony.

Please share your secrets if yours are lovely!

Thanks in anticipation :)

Here's how I learnt to make them. I think the water dilutes the lemon a bit - whether it will still be too lemony for you I don't know

1.5kg potatoes, peeled and cut into 4cm cubes. (I think waxy ones work best)
1/2 cup greek olive oil
2 garlic cloves in slivers
1tsp dried oregano, crumbled (
1 tsp salt
1/2 cup water
1/3 cup lemon juice
optional fresh oregano to serve

Preheat oven to gas 6
put potatoes in a big bowl and pour the oil over them.
Add the garlic, dried oregano, salt to taste and toss well to coat with the oil. Tip into a roasting tin.
Bake the potatoes for 15 minutes.
Add the water and bake for 10 minutes more.
Splosh over the lemon juice, and bake for 10 to 15 minutes more, or until the potatoes are cooked through.
They should be soft on the bottom but crispy on top.
Sprinkle with the fresh oregano and black pepper and serve at once.

I hope you like them

I have cooked this with Italian Oil (cos it's cheaper  ::)) and it really didn't taste the same   :nowink:

Those spuds sound lovely, Meditterranean rim food is my favourite way to eat.  I have all the ingredients except Greek olive oil, but having never tasted them with it I might not mind using Italian. :)

Thank you m'dear - will try that recipe out.
Its amazing how different Italian, Greek and Spanish olive oils taste!

My other recipe was too lemony to hopefully this will be better.
