Very silly question!
« on: March 14, 2012, 21:32 »
I might be making a fool of myself here, but I'll ask anyway :wacko:;

What is a 'short row'?? Several of my lotty neighbours have said they had planted 'short rows', I had assumed that it just meant a smaller sowing. However, I was reading the back of my sprout seed packet today and it said to plant in 'short rows'.

Am I correct that it is exactly what it says, or is it a gardening term I am missing? And why would some crops need to be planted in short rows?

Acquired a third of a plot in January 2011 which was extended to three quarters in December 2011. Managed by myself and my 6 year old son.

A short row means exactly what it says  ;)
Lettuces are often sown in short rows, cos you wouldn't want a 30ft row of lettuce all ready for eating at the same time  :ohmy:
Sow a short row then a few weeks later sow another etc etc. This way you get lettuce all season long :)

I agree with Mum.

PS There are no silly questions on here! (Though some of the answers don't bear close scrutiny  ;) :lol: )
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

All mushrooms are edible.......................................................some only once  :)
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.
