Lanky seedlings
« on: March 14, 2012, 06:23 »
About 3 weeks ago i put broad beans and peas into cells to bring on for planting on the plot.
problem is.. the seedlings are rather lanky. the peas are about 2" tall and flopping over and the  broad beans are top heavy and falling over.

i need some advice on what to do, do i stick with them or start again??

At two inches the peas should be up straight really.

They, and the  broad beans can go straight in the ground tbh, with a bit of shleter from some fleece or a cloche if you get any frost, until they are hardened off.

Bluntly - start again.

Neither need to be indoors, which I assume they are, rather than, say a greenhouse, where they should not have got as leggy.

I'm not sure if you know how many peas you need for a row, you say you've started them in cells - you'll need at least 12 peas for one foot of row - for a decent row, that's a lot of cells!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?
