I am sure that I read somewhere that you can start Brussels and Cabbage seeds off in an unheated propagator this time of year. I've started some in a heated propagator and they went leggy really quickly.  :(
I have my own cement mixer and not afraid to use it!!

I plan on starting mine in a cold frame.  As long as the room they are in is cool and light you should get away with it.

If the seeds will be next to a radiator then it will probably be too warm for them.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Thanks Yorkie. They won't be near a radiator as I'm going to put them on shelving infront of patio doors. They will get lots of light there.   :)

My brassica way.

It has been recommended by others who have seen it!

The main rule is brassicas = no heat!
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

I started mine in an unheated greenhouse a few weeks ago they was up quick, i got caught out my first growing season with to much heat in the greenhouse during the day so move them out soon after germination.
Thanks
Kris

But isn't the weather too cold to start them in an unheated greenhouse?

No, not really, mine are in a cold greenhouse, just a little shelter from the worst of the weather.
I was put on this earth to accomplish a certain number of things; right now I am so far behind I will never die.

They wont germinate until they are ready too Yana and it must have been right for them as they are looking good.

Although I prefer the more economical module sowing way, a lot of my brassica packets say to direct sow (open ground) from now on, so it's not going to be too early for a greenhouse.

The module way is not only more economical, it also means I don't have to faff about with a seed bed for them and then move them later  :D

I sow 2 seeds in a pot spilt when large enough to go in the ground.
