i put mine in a propagator and they've come up really well a little on the tall side but very healthy looking (i did take the lid off once they'd sprouted though) and im just at the stage of repotting but then i seem to have a lot of potting on to do (it seems to all happen at once)
When i die i shall go to may. It will be green. Not environmentally correct green, for things will just be, without measurement or judgement, but actually the colour green in all its thousand shining faces.

Yes, they're made tough, that's why they don't need heat. Growing them in propagators can lead you to having weak plants.

It's best not to start here, as the saying goes.

i know brassicas dont need heat to germinate, but what i was sayin was that if you plant them deep they will probably be ok - aslong as the stems are burried deeper and they are moved into a unheated greenhouse. like the op says it does seem a waste of plants - if it where me i would plant them deeper - but thats just my opinion! ;)

If - and I stress if - they are very weak and leggy at this stage, you'll need a gentle touch, a deep pot and a lot of compost to pot each plant up and you can still end up with a weak plant.

For the price of a packet of seed, it's so much simpler to start from scratch. They'll be up in a few days and you'll have strong plants from the outset and more than enough seeds for the next few years!

the op did say they where 'not too long' - im not disagreeing with you DD, the op would be better off starting from scratch - all i was saying is that they could be 'saved'

   thank you, Could that be because they were too warm? Do they germinate in cooler conditions? Many thanks :)

i dont know if its my eyes but the soil looks like it is cracking - which would indicte a lack of water - which would also lead to weak plants!
