Rooting hormone
« on: February 28, 2012, 21:34 »
Two questions a) if you don't have access to willow trees (I live in South London and because of subsidence it is not very popular here) can you make it.
b) If not can  you buy it from Wilkinson's?  Online seems quite expensive and we are not that near any garden centers?

I never knew about the willow recipe, but have now seen lots of links about it.

But I never bother with rooting hormone anyway...

Hormone rooting compound was banned as from October/November last year (well the manufacture of it was anyway).  You can still sell it until your stocks run out.

It is still widely availabe at present.
Perhaps a new formula will be approved soon, as I appears that they only banned one of the artificial hormones and their are others that would do the job :)

Maybe the ban has something to do with the methadrone drug. I heard it was made from some plant feed.

You can use crushed asprin and water mixed into a paste as a homemade rooting formula. Or some people say a sugar water mixture does the trick. Im currently trying this out on cloned connifer trees but its too early to say whether its worked or not.
