MR FOX paid us a visit tonight.
« on: October 18, 2007, 22:16 »
just before eastenders off i trotted down through my garden with my trusty torch towards the gate to the chickens garden.

there trying to get under the gate was mr fox.

first i thought it was next doors dog, until he heard me, turned to look at me and i saw his white bits.

me being a big brave girl - RAN -

straight back indoors to phone my pops.

panic then set in that my girls were not shut up, so torch in one hand and a chopstick (dont ask) in the other, i tentively crept back up the garden, rushed through the gate, counted the chooks and ducks and shut them in so quick in case mr fox had got in their garden and sneeked between my legs.

dad arrived 12 bore over his shoulder storming up the garden like arnie on red bull.

after two hours of checking and rechecking their fencing dad assured me that i didnt need to have an all night stake out they are perfectly safe, and laughing that he couldnt use the gun in the garden anyway. he just grabbed it on his way out.

then panic again. im off to london tomorrow for a few days with mum and my sisters, i cant possibly go and leave them to fend for themselves, how do i sit in the theatre watching dirty dancing tomorrow night knowing that mr fox could be hurting my babies - so my dad my hero has promised that tomorrow evening he will be out there with a hot chocolate and a night air rifle,

so come on MR FOX - try it again - we're ready!!!

and if your in a built up area with houses within 50 mtres of your proprty you cant use any of them at all . a 243 will travel well outside the area and be considered totally dagerous as will the others ,without a safe backstop able to stop any of these rounds .you can use a .22 rim if you are shooting down onto a soft ground area but even that is risky
,and you are not even allowed to use an air rifle in your garden if the pellet is capable of leaving your property. the penalties for doing so are very big including jail time ,and a chance you could be shot or injured yourself

trapping it . a licensed pest control person (  like what i do )  can asess the area for shooting it with a silenced .22 rimfire with a safe back stop .i have shot them from bedroom windows before , you need to contact the council in your area to see if they have anybody on thier books who does fox control .expect to pay £60 with disposal for the visit resulting in a kill .if thier is a chance that more than one fox is visiting your property, expect £15 per additional fox shot that evening. you will be expected to prebait the area so that when the shooter comes the fox is used to being fed in that area which the shot is to be taken .it a lucky shooter who goes out on a call and the fox is there waiting  :)

thanks aunt sally, ive just ordered one.

not a bad price either, considering the area it covers.

i know they cant get into the chicken garden, its very secure, but id rather that just were'nt around at all.

a 243 will travel well outside the area
Lethal from maybe a mile away, I'd imagine? (If you were daft enough to fire it into the air at 45 degrees)
