Once again...Tesco. In their "ingredients" section. Not worth the money IMO. I tried them but if you coarsely crumb some freshish white crumbs and leave them to dry in the kitchen or when the oven cools, not much difference.

It sounds just like 'ready to make' pancake mix !   have you ever heard of anything so ridiculous?        Cheers,     Tony.

I use panko crumbs now instead of regular breadcrumbs and prefer them. As said, the panko is a bit more coarse, but uniformly so, and when added to foods, everything has a lighter texture since you're not getting so much fine crumb packed in. I also use it for frying fish and other items, and yes, they crisp up nicely and since there is less breading, have a lighter eating texture.

At first I had to shop around for panko and price it, but it soon became more popular and the prices became more reasonable. This might be the case for you at the moment.

You could try to make your own but its too much bother for me.

You can deep fry with them, but I don't. I just pan fry fish and cutlets with them. As you say, they're much lighter than standard breadcrumbs which I rarely use now. I even add panko to meatloaf, meatballs, etc.

Seems Tesco have taken them off their list, even though we still have some in our store. (Probably didn't sell enough before they went out of date) You can get them in Sainsbury's and Amazon. Probably Waitrose too.

You can buy them (and other tasty Japanese goodies) from www.japancentre.com - they deliver across the whole country at very reasonable prices!

I like to use them to make a katsu curry... delicious.
