Pruning fruit bushes that never went dormant.
« on: February 13, 2012, 15:33 »
I waited for my fruit bushes to become dormant before pruning them back. With the fine weather, however, they never really did and they are already starting to bud again. My question is: can I prune them now even though they are growing new buds?

Yes, prune them now rather than let the plant waste energy on pieces you'll cut off. It's been an odd year for weather and plants so many things will have to be done by guessing.

I agree with Trill, well, I know, most of my roses never go dormant. Feb is the time to prune. Proceed.

But not your plum trees or any prunus variety. Pruning in winter leaves them open to infection so do it in spring when the sap starts to rise.
