Using last years seed packs??
« on: February 06, 2012, 16:51 »
I have a number of opened packs of seeds fom last year. Some herb packs have a 'use by'date. Generally can last years open packs be used this year?

They'll be fine as long as they've been stored cool ( not roasting or freezing) and dry  ;)

I use this as a basic guide:

I have some tom seeds that were 9 years old last year and they were still viable.

I found some mouldy looking courgette seeds in my box of seeds sowd them to see what would happen and they have all come up  now i got 8 courgette plants on the window sill  I cant bring myself to chuck them out i know they wont make it through until the frost have past even in the poly-tunnel but i am not going to chuck them out :nowink: they will be huge and in the way and i will have to find another home for them.  Don't give up on the seeds they will be fine.
Thanks

I found this some time ago but I forgot about it for the last thread on this subject.

http://www.seedsanctuary.com/herbs/detail.cfm?ID=402

Seems like some tobacco seeds 1000 years old were found and they produced plants,
So last years packets might have a chance...
