There are strict regulations which I think were sparked off with the outbreak of Mad Cow Disease.  The cows were initially infected from being fed feed which included contaminated foreign meat.  These regulations may seem strict but I remember the devastation caused by one farmer breaking the rules.

Nothing. There are rules and regulations about prepared food because of H&S but I doubt there's an inspector looking over your garden wall if you're a back-garden chicken keeper.

I seem to remember, way back in the `60s, on my parents smallholding, the hens getting all the kitchen scraps, including cooked bones and carcases, and they went mad for them. The bones would be stripped clean.

The reason for not giving hens meat products is the risc of cross contamination, i know the law seems daft but was intended to stop outbreaks of diseeses on farms but the law is the law and it treats back garden chucks the same as farms, i have mailed asking DEFRA to clarify the situation, but they havent got back to me  butas far as the current law states its illegle to feed any animal by products to any other animal.
