Hi All, I've just joined in the hope for some advice on my Howard Gem.  I used it last summer and it worked fine, gears started crunching a bit.  Now I can't select gears, it won't come out of reverse and if I try second or third it locks.  Clutch or gearbox problem?
We are developing a small farm for our youth centre and I would love to get the howard back in action.  I'm reasonably mechanically minded but don't want to start pulling bits off until I know where the fault may be at.

If the beast has a clutch, I would check the adjustment.  I don't have one.  .  .  .but thats what I'd go for  If I had.     Cheers,      Tony.

Thanks Tony,  it does have a clutch.  I'll check the adjuster tomorrow and hope for a simple solution.

Hi ,when you operate the clutch do you feel much resistance on the lever ? Idealy it should feel smooth and you should feel resistance immediately as you operate the clutch lever,if you havnt much experience on gear boxes then you should steer clear ,there are manuals in the instruction section

Amazing, got it sorted in 5 mins and have been looking at it since October!
It was actually the gear rod linkage which was out of adjustment.  This stopped me getting neutral and I think when I went into 3rd or 4th it was selecting reverse and forward gears at the same time.
