rabbit problems ?
« on: January 30, 2012, 18:48 »
if you have problems with  rabbits an easy way to keep them off your veg patch is make friends with a man or woman who keeps ferrets ,i keep ferrets for catching rabbits,  i store there droppings in bags then i scatter them right around the perimetre of my allotment an so ive never been bothered since ive been doing this and its not harmfull to anything.

For those who dislike ferrets, insert some corner posts in problem areas and wrap chicken fencing around it, making sure to peg the fencing bottoms into the soil so the little beasties can't burrow in.  2-3 ft high fencing will easily do the trick.

chicken wire is good but needs to be dug in at least a foot more if possible and rabbits are great jumpers if wots on the other side is worth the effort and i would go at least 4 foot high sthis reason i think rabbit fencing can be quite expensive

I only use a couple of feet of chicken wire, as Trillium said, and it keeps them out fine. I don't bury the bottom either. And my garden is teeming with rabbits.
