What to do with a raised bed?
« on: January 28, 2012, 21:24 »
I've been given a raised bed to put on my allotment, it's about 10'x6'xscaffold board high!

What will be the best thing to put in it?

Depending on your ground, but generally safe bet is roots.

You can plant anything in it that you would normally plant straight in the ground. :)

You can grow anything you like in a raised bed but it has advantages and disadvantages.  You won't be walking on a raised bed so the soil will not get compacted and need digging.  Planting spacing can be closer so more yield per square foot.

On the downside, raised beds need more watering as they drain more quickly.
