We have at least a couple of forum members in Ireland who enjoy growing. Hopefully they'll see your question, although I do know that one of them is quite busy with a new litter of pups at the moment. ::) :D

Marshall's seeds have a .ie site - link attached. If you use that rather than their UK site you will see the prices in Euros. You could just contact some of the UK companies such as Suttons and ask if they deliver to Ireland - certainly they deliver to Northern Ireland but sometimes the postage is higher.

Andycorker,

http://www.fruithillfarm.com for seed potatoes, garden equipment and green manure seeds. (Pretty sure they are in Cork, but also do mail order).

http://www.mrmiddleton.com are supposed to be good too.

I have to say my local Glambia is by far the cheapest place for me to buy seeds. The stock a brand called De Ree and they have a good selection of seeds and its €5 for 5 pkts. or €1.49 each.

May i suggest, if you are new to veg growing that you join GIY. It is an amazing movement of veg growers all over Ireland. Only started a couple of years ago. Its all free. Find out where your local meeting would be through this website http://www.giyireland.com
The people at your meeting may give you better ideas of where to get seeds.

They will get involved in seed swaps and plant swaps and its a great place to swap ideas, learn new things, and generally help each other out.

Hope that helps.
Liv.

Hi
I like http://www.brownenvelopeseeds.com/ based near Skibbereen (West Cork).
not the greatest range, but for me it is supporting local business (also West Cork)

I second that idea about GIY... Its absolutely inspiring.
I also recommend the book written by Michael Kelly, who started the GIY movement. "Tales from the Home Farm", its one of those books you read in the winter and it just gets you really excited about getting started, and its a very funny read in places too!

I'm not all that busy yet argyllie  :D

Nice to see more Irish based members. I find Glanbia (or Lidl) a good source for seeds. As for buying from the UK; I find that with the currency difference + postage it isn't worth the bother.

Not even thinking about seeds at the moment  ::)

Hello fellow countrymen/women :D

I was in Woodies today and noticed that they had the De Ree brand, but the deal was €1.99 per pack or 3 for €5.  Not as good as the deal on them in Glanbia last year. (see earlier post)

The price is actually printed on the pack, not stickered so it doesn't look like Woodies is simply overcharging.

Will report next time i'm in Glanbia.

Forgot about brown envelope seeds, i know lots of people in my GIY group use them.

I've read Michael Kellys book and totally agree, its a great winter read.

What about good ol' premierseeds on ebay. The postage to Ireland is only 80p, regardless of how much you order. Their seeds are mostly 99p sterling per pack, and there's quite a lot in each package- often a lot more than what you'd use in one growing season. And they do some nice unusual varieties. They're really great.

Thanks for that link Spartacat, i have seen them mentioned on here but, wow, they really do look like good value. Postage is excellent.

Suttons seeds charge £4.95 for postage to Ireland

The only way i would pay that is if Ewan McGregor was delivering them personally. :)

It's obscene isn't it? I think they charge a one-price-fits-all, regardless of what your buying, but if its just seeds arriving in a regular jiffy envelope, its a poor deal. I've noticed that Suttons send things out 'as they're available' rather than in one shipment, so that must put their postage costs higher.
I tend to steer clear of Suttons, T&M, and the rest of the large seed companies because their seed prices are not competitive at all... the postage costs just make it pointless. (and i'm in the UK!!)
