another pea query -- saving seed
« on: January 17, 2012, 07:39 »
I have bought several different varieties of pea this year, includng purple podded, golden podded (which is a mange tout), victorian dwarf, colossal climbing and carouby du mausane.

The idea is that those we really like the flavour of, we shall save seeds from for next year - I only have ten seeds of each at the moment.

So... my question please is:

Is it OK to grow all these in relatively close proximity, or will this result in hybrid seeds for the following season?

Thannk you

Peas are self fertile and pollination takes place within an enclosed flower. It is very unlikely that they will cross, but rogues are easily spotted the next year if they do.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

Thank you for putting my mind at rest, DD

After me never having had cross pollination with french beans your photo of the huge purple monster  made me think again about the peas.

I am glad it wonlt take too much faffing about
